The 405 REPLAY 1st Aired Nov 30th, 2021
I want to again welcome you to The 405 Coffee Break. Get yourself a cup of coffee, glass of iced tea. You know what? That just isn't my style. You can get a drink of whatever you want, and if you don't want anything, that's fine too. Let's see what's happening out there.
Todd Smith:Spring wheat is worth about $9.76 a bushel. A 550lb steer calf? Hey. I bet you don't even have a steer calf, and if you did, you probably wouldn't listen to this program to find out what the price was anyway. So let's just cut to the chase. But guys, there's more, much more.
Todd Smith:If you haven't noticed by now, this isn't Orvin. This is Todd Smith, and I've known Orvin since the fall of 1964. I gave Orvin an idea a while back.
Todd Smith:I said, I'll fill in for you for 1 episode and kind of show you how it should be done. See, since I've known Orvin for so long, I'm here to tell you, he doesn't always know what's the right thing to say or do.
Todd Smith:I've been listening to this program on and off for 3 years now, and I know for a fact the only reason it's still on the air is because the church pays KMMR to Air it. Orvin does one good thing though, he has a Bible verse every day. That's just all right, and I have a Bible verse for you today.
Todd Smith:It's found in Proverbs 10:23 Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool, but wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding. Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool. Notice you have never heard Orvin quote that one on The 405, maybe hit just a little bit too close to home, but wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding. I understand that.
Todd Smith:Okay, I want to tell you something of great importance. You guys know it's a dog eat dog world out there, so let me give you a nickel's worth of free advice. Since it's a dog eat dog world out there, you're going to have to learn to take care of yourself. If you don't, nobody will do it for you. One of the best pieces of advice I heard when I was a kid was to tuck away 20% of all your earnings and get it working for you.
Todd Smith:Invest it in some solid type of investment. Every payday take 20% right off the top and tuck it away for yourself. And I know what lots of you are thinking, I can't afford to put away 20%, but I'm here to tell you otherwise. If you make it a habit to withdraw 20%, as soon as you get your paycheck, you will never miss it. Say your paycheck is $1,400 well, take $280 and get it working for you.
Todd Smith:You still have $1120 to pay the bills and have a little fun. Say your paycheck is $3,000 take 600 right off the top and put it aside for rainy day. You will still have $2,400 to use however you see fit. With a plan like this, you can live a comfortable lifestyle when you decide to retire because uncle Sam may not get it done for you.
Todd Smith:If a if a person did this for 30 years and if that person made $1,500 a month, they would have tucked away $108,000 But if you were earning interest on it at even 4%, that nest egg would grow to over $209,000. There's my nickel's worth of free advice, and it's a lot better than hearing about when Leave It to Beaver Aired for the First Time or some crazy sports trivia that Orvin is sharing all the time.
Todd Smith:Let Orvin know how much you appreciate a program that adds some worth to it for a change. Gotta run. As you go out there, you know what? You can be bitter if you want, but just remember, it won't do you any good. This is Todd Smith signing off, and I'm afraid to tell you, but Orvin will be back tomorrow. I can't keep carrying he all my life. I gotta get back to work. See you.
