The 405 Aired Sept 11th, 2025
I wanna again welcome you to The 405 Coffee Break, guys. Thursday, get your cup of coffee, glass iced tea, bottle of water, let's see what's happening. Spring Wheat, $5.14 a bushel. 550 pound steer calf, believe it or not. I found a price currently pays Billings $4.12, $4.12 50 to be precise.
OK Solberg:Butcher Hog in Iowa, 59¢ a pound, and a 100 pound fat lamb in Billings, $2.02. They're coming up just a little bit. But guys, there's more, much more. Okay. I have my top hat handy, and I'll throw in multiple topics into the hat.
OK Solberg:You know, a top hat just like Abraham Lincoln wore. And the topics are thrown in so I can choose what to talk about today. We have local history stories or baseball, making quilts, why our fingernails grow faster than our toe nails, music, cars, fictional writing, the reason old men get fat, and football. I wanna keep this program wide open on the fun topics we can discuss. So I'm reaching in right now, the top hat, mixing them up without looking.
OK Solberg:I hear someone say, I hope it isn't baseball. I hear another thinking, I hope it's quilting trivia. Oh, and here it is. It says local football. Hey.
OK Solberg:That sounds very appropriate as we're having homecoming tomorrow and the Conrad Cowboys are coming to town. And the other good news is that homecoming is here this year, not away. Did you see the new sign above the entrance to the football field? It's a thing of beauty. It truly is.
OK Solberg:We thank the athletic club for this wonderful new addition to our football field. The new sign reads, home of the Malta Mustangs, 1996, 2000, 2006, and 2024 state champs. Well, that gives me an idea. I just happen to have some information from one of those state championships. It was in 2006.
OK Solberg:You remember back in ott six? Ott six, Malta Mustang football season, one of the years that they won the state championship. Listen, as I quote from the November 15 edition of the PCN from way back in ott six. The front page has a picture, and below the picture it reads, we're number two, question mark? Malta student Mike Krasco isn't signal signaling that the Malta Mustangs are number two.
OK Solberg:The two fingers are for the two point extra point play scored by Malta's Chance Demarais to give the Mustangs a 35, 34 win over Huntley project Saturday afternoon, and the crowd went wild. End of the quote from the front page. Now let's turn to the sports page. And I quote, same newspaper. Sure, we were playing a team called the Red Devils, and yes, the clouds did part and the heavens opened and the sun shone down on the field in those final two minutes.
OK Solberg:But did God really intervene on the side of the Malta Mustang Saturday afternoon on a football field at Huntley Project High School? Well, it sure seemed that way as the Malta football squad pulled off one of the greatest come from behind playoff game victories in school history to win 35, 34, and advance to the championship game Saturday against Loyola in Missoula at 1PM. Down thirty four twenty with two minutes and eighteen seconds to play. Sorry. I have to say that again.
OK Solberg:Down 34 to 20 with two minutes eighteen seconds left to play in the game. The Mustangs scored on two long passes from quarterback Kazz Siewing to Curtis Darrah and got the winning two point conversion on a superbly executed trap play that saw a junior running back, Chance Demarais, dive into the end zone with four seconds left. End of quote. Oh, it was a game of a lifetime. It certainly was comparable to the Malta Mustang basketball team way back from 1985 against the Browning Indians in triple overtime at the 4 Seasons Arena.
OK Solberg:So they traveled to Missoula the next week and were playing for the state championship and the PCN Reads, and then there was one. Mustangs down Loyola, 34-12 for third state title. Now I realize I don't have much time left, but I would like to list these names from the district to be all conference teams. Mitch Ereaux, Zeb Olson, Aaron DeVries, Trent Morgan, Curtis Darrah, Chance Demarais, Jake Jones, Jason Spencer, Reed Pankratz, Michael French, Logan Sims, Cohen Ereaux, Ryan Flat, Kazz Siewing, Jeff Handley, and Cruz Siewing. Great football players from back way back in ott six right here in Malta, Montana.
OK Solberg:Go Mustangs. Good luck tomorrow night in your homecoming game. Oh, wait. I need to have a bible verse. How about John 11:35
OK Solberg:Jesus wept. The shortest verse in the bible and what I wanna do if I ever forget the Bible verse. So until next time, as you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
